The Dragon Shooter Steamroller - Smokin Js

The Dragon Shooter Steamroller

The Dragon Shooter Steamroller!  For 20 years this pipe has been a staple in the Smokin Js display cases.  The pipe was first developed by Phat Katz Glass, the first glass blowers to service Smokin Js in 1997.  Tom Covelle of Phat Katz Glass was the original master of the Dragon Shooter, perfecting the tiny “Choker Hole” that radically redesigns everything you ever thought a steamroller should be.  To this day, one half of the original Phat Katz Glass crew still blows glass for Smokin Js. You can see Scott Sherrell’s work here.

Over the years Smokin Js has had five glass blowers make the Dragon Shooter Steamroller with the advanced choker hole.  Besides the simple standard silver spoon, the Dragon Shooter Steamroller is oldest and longest running pipe that Smokin Js produces.

So what is a “Choker Hole” and how does it change the traditional steamroller design?  The “Choker Hole” is a tiny pinhole, about the diameter of a toothpick, placed at the beginning of the steamroller tube.  It allows air to flow into the tube during the smoking process. Think about it as a permanent carb. Air streams in and shoots the smoke directly from the dragon’s mouth into your lungs.  Without the “Choker Hole” the tube simply fills with smoke until you let off the normal carb on the back like a regular pipe. Now this is where things get weird! You can create smoke tricks with the “Choker Hole” by manipulating the two carbs.  Throughout the years we have heard amazing reports from customers with different rolling techniques on the “Choker Hole” to create spirals and even rings. One thing is for sure, it is fun and entertaining to try and master the Dragon Shooter Steamroller.

We are very proud to support local American Glass blowers.  The Dragon Shooter Steamroller will always be an original Smokin Js pipe made in America!  Budd Bay is hard working the dragon on the torch.  His version of the Dragon Shooter Steamroller is thicker and more durable than any other we have made before. Currently we have four elemental dragons in one design:  Fire, Earth, Wind, and Water. Keep an eye out for new models to come out of the Smokin Js lab as our current glass blowers develops his skill with the Dragon Shooter Steamroller design.
